How does MarktMentor's Product Tracker work?

MarktMentor estimates the sales of all relevant products on bol.com based on a self-developed algorithm. This has been tested on tens of thousands of products, showing that MarktMentor's Product Tracker has a maximum margin of error of 25% for 80% of products.

How does the Product Tracker work at other companies?

They do this based on the shopping cart method. They look at inventory differences over time for products and determine sales based on that. This method is very error-prone, provides unreliable data and often takes time before you have sales information for products. This is because:

• Waiting for data You have to specify which products you want to track yourself. This means you have to wait a month before you have a month of data.
• Stock above 500 It's not possible to estimate sales of products with stock above 500 this way, because you can only see a maximum of 500 stock on bol.com.
• Stock replenishment If the stock is replenished in the meantime, the numbers won't be accurate.
• Sales outside bol.com If the product is sold in different places via the same inventory system, the stock on bol.com will also decrease when the product is sold elsewhere. This can result in huge sales numbers being incorrectly measured for bol.com.

How can MarktMentor be better AND cheaper?

We have worked hard over the past years to develop our own algorithms for determining sales and revenue on bol.com. These algorithms are often more accurate than the shopping cart method and are relatively cheap to maintain, while the shopping cart method requires a lot of server capacity and is more expensive to maintain.
